The battle of Suvla Bay is remembered 100 years on
The sacrifice made by hundreds of men from Herefordshire at the battle of Suvla Bay in Gallipoli during the first world war is going to be marked in the city this August. 70 men from the county's territorial battalion died at Suvla but the horendous conditions forced hundreds of them to be evacuated - by December 1915 fewer than 80 from the 1100 strong unit were fit to fight. Percy Pritchard was just 17 when he joined his friends to attack the beaches hundreds of miles from home. At the age of 95 his memories were still as vivid as ever and his daughter Liz Patrick is incredibly proud of the part her Dad played in the Great War.............
