"Stories From Santa Marta" is a sensitive yet highly provocative play written and directed by Bethan McEvoy who spent 12 months working in El Salvador researching the production. The play was performed last night at the Rich-Mix Theatre in London. Using testimonies, true stories and interviews “Stories From Santa Marta” is based on the true-life stories of three people from two different generations struggling to get by in modern El Salvador. From the 1970s until 1992 it should be remembered that more than 70, 000 thousand Salvadorian died in the country’s civil war, with the country's military dictatorship backed by the United States. Thousands were made to disappear during one of Latin America's most violent civil wars in modern history many still remain missing. The play was set against that background. Esperanza's Anne Daly who worked as a reporter in El Salvador during the civil war attended last nights event. After the performance Anne spoke with Bethan McEvoy.
