Aberdeen City Council equality champion Ross Thomson discusses new equal marriage legislation that has come into effect in Scotland. The Marriage and Civil Partnership (Scotland) Act came into effect at midnight, meaning same-sex couples can now give two weeks' notice of their ceremonies. allowing the first weddings to take place on the 31st. However the first marriages under the new legislation take place today, as civil partnerships in Scotland can now be converted to a marriage at registration offices across the country.
