US immigration reform "should help economic growth"

The centrepiece of President Barack Obama's recently announced reform of US immigration system is a plan to offer millions of illegal immigrants the chance to get a three-year work permit. The economist Irwin Stelzer of the Hudson Institute in Washington told us the proposals "should help economic growth" but he also highlighted some of the objections, including the pressure it will place on social services and the fact that it will mean lower wages for black workers and American born Hispanics.
