Coke radio soap 'Claudia' - episode first aired on Christmas Eve in 1924
Having used print since 1885, Coke embraced the new medium of radio by the 1920s. A singer called Jessica Dragonette became ‘Vivian, the Coca Cola Girl’ on WEAF in New York.
Through the next three decades and long before McCann-Erickson created the famous musical spot ads, Coke sponsored all manner of entertainment shows. Just like the detergent manufacturers whose sponsoring of soap operas lent them their name, Coke was bringing original drama to radio. Enjoy this 15’ episode of the ‘Claudia’ drama, produced by the D'Arcy ad Agency in St. Louis, first aired on Christmas Eve 1924.
