Radio USA for Africa

Following the release of Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas in December 1984 over in the States they responded with We Are the World. On 21 April 1985 the Westwood One radio network beamed across America a three-hour special, Radio USA for Africa. In this clip you’ll hear the legendary Scott Shannon along with DJs Mary Turner and Joel Denver The rock stars appearing in this sequence are Kevin Cronin of Reo Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Daryl Hall, Kenny Loggins and Steve Perry of Journey.

My notes say I recorded this on 28 April 1985 so I’m guessing ILR stations broadcast this a week later as I’ll have taped this on Viking Radio.
