BiH 2014: A ride on the Sarajevo tramway

I can't visit a new city and not have a ride on its transport system. The opportunity to ride the trams in Sarajevo arose when Mark and I wanted to head west to visit the springs of the River Bosna.

After purchasing tickets from a tiny kiosk built into the tram stop we boarded a number 3 heading for Ilidza, the end of the line located close to Sarajevo airport. The trams themselves were of an old design, with steep steps and concertina doors, and with a driving position at just one end. Like many systems tickets are stamped in an onboard machine, though the actual process for doing so seems to differ between every tram in the world! The route from the Old Town to the west is pretty straight, with on road running for a good proportion of the journey, though parts of it are extraordinarily uneven and noisy to travel along.
