Northumberland 2014: The border with Scotland

Continuing our holiday in northern England and the Scottish Borders, mum and I left Farlam Hall and headed north on the A7, crossing the border before heading for Kelso.

I love the idea of borders, the physical and psychological divides on which they may be based and those they may create, and the degree to which life continues in such similar ways on either side.

As it happened, the only change that occurred immediately. Upon entering the land of the Scots was a deterioration in the road surface and the introduction of stripy crash barriers.
