The fine art of the email auto-reply

It's summer in the northern hemisphere. A time when millions of workers reach joyously for their swimming trunks... and also, their email autoreplies.

You know the kind of thing.

"I'm away until the Twelfth of Never.... with limited access to emails."

But what are we really saying with an autoreply like that?

Our regular commentator Kucy Kellaway of the Financial Times suspects it might just be a little white lie.
