Stage 15: Kristoff denies Bauer at the death

In the latest Telegraph Cycling Podcast, supported by Jaguar, there is discussion of stage fifteen and interviews with Nicolas Roche, Allan Peiper and the voice of the Tour de France, Sebastian Piquet.

Richard Moore, Lionel Birnie and Daniel Friebe are joined by Norwegian journalist Anders Christianson, of daily newspaper VG, who tells us about his countryman, the stage winner Alexander Kristoff.

Kristoff is the lesser-known of the three big-name Norwegian cyclists, with Thor Hushovd and Edvald Boasson Hagen huge stars – Christianson tells us why that is, and how it could change.

There is also discussion of the hero of the stage, Jack Bauer, who was off the front from the start and, 222km later, was caught, agonisingly, in the final twenty metres remaining.

Roche, meanwhile, talks about his former teammate Romain Bardet, who sits third overall. “I was a teammate of Romain’s and always saw him as a big talent. I told him at the beginning of the Tour he could be between 5th and 7th but now he’s fighting for the podium.”

Of the French, Roche said: “It took them a while to forget the [Bernard] Hinault years and move forward, but now they’re giving a great show for the Tour and for the French fans.”

Finally there’s an extended interview with Piquet, who has been the voice of Radio Tour for ten years, a job he describes as a huge privilege and an even bigger responsibility.
