While the attention of Farnborough Air Show visitors may have been fixed on the stratosphere, some people there have had their eyes fixed on a higher plane altogether. Britain's aviation minister, Robert Goodwill, was at the show to announce the UK government's commitment to a British space port - to be up and running by the year 2018.

For a country which can't guarantee its trains run on time, that might sound like so much pie in the sky, but Sam Adlam from a space industry organisation called Catapult Solutions insists it's not space fiction.
