Bristol Braille Technology is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company working to reverse the decline in literacy amongst blind people by making radical new and affordable multiline Braille e-book readers for GBP300, six times less than the nearest alternative.

Braille is key to blind literacy. Yet it has failed to keep up with advances in technology and usage is diminishing. Printed Braille is impractically bulky, refreshable Braille has long been an expensive, exclusive option, and so literacy becomes niche.

Our project, Canute, will help reverse this trend by providing access to tactile digital reading to the vast majority of blind people for the first time. It will be the first multiline Braille display ever to be made commercially available.
