He came to power through the power of the gun and 25 years later he is still in power. Omar Al Bashir celebrates two and a half years in control of Sudan... During his tenure there's been the bitter war of secession which led to the independence of South Sudan.. They celebrate their third anniversary as an autonomous land tomorrow... Well Omar Al Bashir has lasted longer in power than any other Sudanese leader. But it has been a difficult period, with devastating civil wars in Darfur and other places. In 2011, South Sudan seceded, after decades of conflict. So how to assess the Bashir years? Here's our former Sudan correspondent James Copnall.
