Final Noel Edmonds breakfast show - 1978
It's tough being second. After bright-eyed Blackburn made Radios 1's inaugural headlines, it's easy to see Noel simply as 'the guy the followed'. But that would be wholly unfair, Noel's spell on breakfast was memorable and top-notch, and for the medium of populist UK music radio which was still finding its place, it was instinctive, creative brilliance. In his five years on air the show evolved from upbeat frothy energy to a really clever offering.
The characters he delivered, like Flynn his 'milkman', were memorable, as were the handover chats at 9 with Tony, the chap he'd displaced. Here, enjoy his final breakfast show.
