P&G pledge end to deforestation for palm oil by 2020

Here's something it might not have occurred to you to worry about.

When you wash your hair, are you helping deforest the planet?

A key ingredient in products like shampoo is palm oil.

The trouble is, large areas of the world's forests have been cleared to make way for palm oil plantations.

Now the world's biggest consumer products company, Procter and Gamble - which makes Head and Shoulders - has bowed to pressure from environmentalists.

The firm says that by 2020, none of its palm oil will be produced in a way that damages forests

The pledge is being seen as a victory for Greenpeace, which draped huge protest banners from the windows of the company's HQ in Cincinatti last month.

One of them read: "Head and Shoulders... Wipes Out Dandruff... and Rainforests."
