Afghans are voting for a new president on Saturday. Tension has been high as hundreds of thousands of troops and police deployed to try to prevent the Taliban from disrupting the poll as they have threatened. The broad economic picture for Afghanistan is daunting - not least because the main export is opium - Vanda Felbab-Brown, a senior fellow with the Brookings Institution in Washington explains.
