Eton and the problem with confidence

Levelling the playing field of education could of course be one way to combat income inequality. Traditionally in the UK the very wealthy, the "elite" have sent their children to boarding schools - the most famous of which is Eton college west of London.

It boasts many royals, novelists, actors and politicians amongst its alumni. It has schooled several British Prime Ministers - including the current one, David Cameron.

But - Lucy Kellaway from the Financial Times thinks that rather than propelling all former pupils into the stratosphere of, such classic British breeding can sometimes prove a burden.
