"One is down to one's last million" is how several British newspapers have reported the fact that the Queen's household finances have hit an historic low - with only a million pounds now left in reserve, compared with 35 million just over a decade ago. A report by the House of Commons Public Accounts Committee has concluded that the Queen's advisers are failing to control her finances at a time when the royal palaces are said to be "crumbling."
