Lance Armstrong: The Master Storyteller
To his millions of fans, the American cyclist Lance Armstrong was more than just a sportsman – he was an icon. His seven successive victories in the Tour de France after recovering from advanced testicular cancer gave hope to those afflicted by the disease – and helped raise hundreds of millions of dollars for his charitable foundation. But the Armstrong myth was built on deceit - and earlier this year he finally admitted that his critics had been right; his Tour wins were fuelled by a cocktail of performance-enhancing drugs. Armstrong’s spectacular fall from grace is the subject of a new documentary – called “The Armstrong Lie” - by the Oscar-winning film-maker, Alex Gibney. Stuart Hughes has been talking to him about how the line between truth and fiction can become blurred. TX: Radio 4 PM programme. 18th October 2013.
