Radio 390 - ID and closedown

Episode 787,   Sep 24, 2013, 08:50 PM

Another one of those sixties pirate stations, offering a fruity alternative to Auntie. This powerful station, though, was softer and sweeter than most – 'aimed at housewives whilst their husbands are out at work'.

On-air from 65-67, Radio 390 operated not from a ship, but from a fort in the Thames Estuary. Therein lay the problem: when a court concluded that the distance, not from the English shore, but from a nearby sandbank determined that the station operated from within territorial waters, the end was nigh.
