Another 12th of July has come and gone and, yet again, another year where we saw violence on our streets. Over 40 police officers, and the DUP MP Nigel Dodds were injured. 49 people arrested and at least 30 plastic baton rounds fired. Rioting erupted in North and East Belfast on Friday night as Orangemen made their way home. Leaders of the organisation had called on people to protest against the Parades Commission's ban on marching up the Crumlin Road past the Ardoyne shops. There was more trouble on Saturday night, with crowds throwing petrol bombs, masonry, wheelie bins and even furniture at police lines.
And last night, another police officer was injured during more trouble in the Woodvale area of north Belfast. Petrol bombs were again thrown.
