Simon Mayo conversation

Episode 738,   Jun 16, 2013, 11:52 AM

There are not too many examples of BBC local radio presenters who end up on Network, let alone who end up on BBC 5 Live and Radio 2, with a burst of Radio 1 breakfast too.

Simon Mayo is the exception. In a conversation in June 2013 here with John Holmes on BBC Radio Nottingham (with whom he worked in days of yore), Simon tells of this Radio 1 debut and his surprise move to 5 Live.

He also talks of how he met his wife, Hilary, whom I remember fondly too. As Simon says, Hilary worked across the road from Radio Nottingham working in a radio social action project, bizarrely called TxRx, which must have puzzled some listeners, if not all. The team worked alongside the Radio Trent team in the same building, who used the more prosaic label of 'Careline'.
