The oil sands in Alberta are causing lots of environmental issues. The mining procedure produces three times more carbon dioxide in the air than the normal burning of fossil fuels. For each barrel of oil mined, five barrels of water are being used, which is also a waste of water. The mining of the oil sands are also causing political problems, as many people around the world are protesting the mining of the oil sands.
