Peter Jones sports commentator
Peter Jones was the voice of radio sport for over two decades heading up the presentation of World Cup, Olympic and Commonwealth Games coverage. On Saturday afternoons he could be heard commentating on the second half of the league football match alongside Alan Clarke, Maurice Edelston or Bryon Butler or hosting Sport on 2 (he was on the first edition in April 1970). Peter died after collapsing from a heart attack whilst commentating on the 1990 University Boat Race.
The career of one of the best known and most authoritative voices in sport was cruelly cut short.
