Kenny Everett , World Tomorrow sacking - 1966
Many great broadcasters have been sacked at least once. The germ which breeds great creativity is the same one which fails to say 'no' in their ears as they are about to say or do something which might impact adversely on their careers.
Kenny's contracts were terminated on a few occasions. In this early classic example from the pirate Radio London, he indicated his annoyance at a religious programme on the station. The fact that its existence made a significant contribution to the station seemed irrelevant to young Ken, who just thought the existence of this tub-thumping evangelism was a thoroughly bad idea.
Hear a slice of the offending programme here, and Kenny reflect on his remarks.
