Hirsty's Daily Dose arrives on Galaxy 105 - 2003
This breakfast show lasted more than ten years, and no-one can doubt its place in radio history.
On January 13th 2003, Simon Hirst and Danny Oakes from Viking joined the effervescent JoJo to made up a new team to wake up Yorkshire - at Galaxy 105.
The arranged marriage worked a treat, even though Hirsty had to leave the JAM Morning Glory jingles back in 'Ull. A natural broadcaster, with true Yorkshire roots, sounding utterly authentic; yet inside that head, a true radio brain whirrs. Real and relatable.
Danny Oakes added humour and mischief; and JoJo, well, she sounded as though she just happens to have wandered in. In the nicest possible way. Many great shows have someone in the mix who actually isn't a classic presenter; adding surprise and character. If the principal goal of a breakfast show is to cheer folk up, JoJo excels.
This was a programme which sounded utterly 'today', not least in its new Capital brand wrapper, yet remained accessible to listeners as they grew a touch older. Like Wogan, people can choose to listen to - or through - the music. .
It's little wonder that this was the show that Yorkshire took to its heart: the station broke through the 1m adult reach figure, where it remains to this day.
The award-winning show's success is all the more remarkable when one considers what happened next. Stephanie Hirst announced who she always was inside, and a new life began. The last Hirsty's Daily Dose on Capital was broadcast in June 2014.
