Telly Disc ad - Alan Freeman
In radio, they are called PI. 'Per item' ads. Those lengthy ads which get increasingly persuasive, not least because the more product sold, the more cash the station earns.
Here's a lovely example from the 80s. A rock 'n' roll compilation LP under the 'TellyDisc' brand. It's not available in the shops. The VO is the legendary Alan Freeman.
Many FMCG products were advertised in this way, now it's more commonly PPI and the like. A generation will recall 'Cuticura mildly-medicated soap'; and a brand of slimming product called Ayds. The slogan was 'Ayds help u lose weight'. Genuinely.
I won't comment on the Alfa jingle into, yes, The Archies!
