Robin Day - Medley

Episode 609,   Dec 14, 2012, 05:30 PM

Robin Day is perhaps best-remembered for his TV appearances, presiding over a panel with authority and a huge bowtie. But radio too was also a home for his breathless, distinctive voice. 'The Grand Inquisitor' hosted the early national phone-in 'It's Your Line'; and presented 'The World at One' from 1979 to 1987.

Moving from the polite 'anything more to tell us, Minister?' generation of interviewers to a more robust one, Robin was no stranger to walk-outs during persistent lines of questioning.

This audio begins with Radio 4, but I confess it veers into TV sound. Well worth it though, as he commits a common Spoonerism, then harangues the then Prime Minister, James Callaghan.

Sir Robin died in 2000.
